Maija

Maija (pronounced “Maya”) hails from London, England but lives in the Washington, DC area.

This year she releases her new single "Let’s Keep This a Secret". There are no perfect words to describe how personal this song has been to Maija. It is deeply emblazoned in her life’s work and relationships. Maija sings a lot of Brazilian jazz but tends to write music in her native language English.

Maija wrote the melody and lyrics to “Let’s Keep This a Secret” and her pianist, Wayne Wilentz, wrote the harmonic arrangement. Gerry Kunkel played guitar; Leonardo Lucini, bass; Mark Prince, drums. The song was recorded in 2023 at Bias Studio, Springfield, VA. Mike Monsieur mastered the final product.

The Livesays

The Livesays are an accomplished five-piece Heartland/Americana band fronted by the band’s namesake critically acclaimed singer/songwriter/guitarist Billy Livesay, who spent 12 years performing, recording and touring with E-Streeter Clarence Clemons' band "Temple of Soul."

During his 12-year tenure with the beloved “Big Man,” Billy recorded and released "Live in Asbury Park" Volumes I & II at The Stone Pony, the second album which features Bruce Springsteen. Billy has shared the stage with so many industry giants, his resume reads like a "Who's Who of Rock n' Roll Hall of Famers." Drummer Steve Rheingold, was formerly the beat keeper with the legendary Wayne Cochran. The Livesays' lineup is rounded out with Jorge Laplume on bass, Victor "Cuqui" Berrios on Hammond B-3 organ, and Tim Murphy on piano, all of whom have impressive resumes of their own. Cuqui, who grew up in New York City, offers a touch of the Big Apple to the band with his Hammond B3 and impassioned vocals.

Tim brings his ear for harmony and his unique Elton John style piano. Jorge hails from Havana, Cuba; with his Latin roots coupled with a steady diet of the rock groups The Who and Free, he delivers a bass sound that is both funky and thunderous. The combination of these five seasoned pros, with their versatile backgrounds, incomparable harmonies, energy level, and undeniable chemistry, create real magic on stage together and put on one heck of a dynamic live performance.

The Livesays have created five full length albums that are both memorable and moving with stories ranging from adolescence to adulthood, from battling addiction to conquering depression, from finding love to losing love ... with lyrics that will surely touch your heart and quench your soul.

IdaLO

This is Swedish singer/songwriter IdaLO's first catchy single from her forthcoming 2024 album. It features Danish acoustic and electric guitar player, co-writer and producer Finn Olafsson, known from his recordings with artists like Anne Linnet, Pia Raug, Lars Lilholt, Ache - and known for his many instrumental guitar releases.

"Låt världen snurra" is written for IdaLO's daughter in her teenage years. It's a song about not giving in to FOMO (fear of missing out) and highlights the unnecessary haste that many of us experiences once in a while. With the question: where are we going anyway? Where is our end station?
And that everything we search for can be found inside ourselves.

IdaLO (aka Ida Linnea Olsson) appears on the Danish label and music publishing company Olafssongs.

Sam Huber

Sam Huber and the True Groove All-Stars lay down two very different sides of the Christmas canon with ‘A Soulful Christmas.’ First up is a fun and funky version of Albert King’s "Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin." Recorded and filmed during his live performance taping for UK digital broadcaster Stabal TV, Sam and the band, along with guests Jonathan Read and Su Robinson (from The Specials horn section), take the song beyond its holiday theme and create a groove that moves and transforms it into a timeless soul classic. "It’s a fun and sexy tongue-in-cheek bluesy soul piece," Huber comments. "When I started thinking about Christmas songs I knew I wanted to go outside the traditional box. I did some digging and found ‘Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin,’ and it jumped out at me right away. I sent it to Tomás (Doncker, Huber’s longtime producer and collaborator), who’s a huge Albert King fan, and he loved it. Having JR and Su on the track really gives it a Stax-y vibe that I love.”

Flipping the script in a very different direction is an intense take of Marvin Gaye’s controversial 'lost' Christmas song, "I Want To Come Home For Christmas." Originally recorded in 1972, arguably the height of his career and his political activism, the song was so somber it didn't see release until 1990, six years after his untimely death. “When I found this song it immediately resonated with me,” notes Huber. "As soon as I heard it, I thought about the conflict in Ukraine and how this song is chillingly, and sadly, very timely today.” "Taking on any Marvin Gaye song is always daunting," adds Doncker. "There's so much going on on multiple levels, but Sam killed it. I've worked with him for a long time and this is one of the most intense performances he's done." Even after it was 'buried,' "I Want To Come Home For Christmas" has become a song that would not die. It's found multiple lives, each unfortunately connected to armed conflict, but with each rebirth, particularly now, its poignancy looms ever larger.

From his secret sonic lab in downtown Helsinki, Finland, Sam Huber has built a career cross-pollinating musical touchstones from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s with modern elements like hip-hop rhythms, trap beats, loops and more to create what he calls 'Future Funk.’

With over a dozen releases in the past five years, featuring collaborations with everyone from dancehall legend Hawkman to hiphop icon Bazerk and P-Funk alums Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton and Amp Fiddler, remixes by the likes of Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Keith Shocklee (The Bomb Squad/Public Enemy) and Grammy winning producer Bill Laswell, Huber is nothing if not prolific.
