The Frst

After sharing stages with acts like Florida Georgia Line, Portugal. The Man and Sublime With Rome, from venues all over like The Grand Ole Opry to the Vans Warped Tour stages, The Frst founder Mikei Gray was looking to fill the gap between his spectrum of experiences and focused on forging a project that encompassed hard rock riffs and meaningful songwriting.

In 2017, Gray founded The Frst, intentionally leaving out the I, due to the band’s changing nature and revolving lineup. Since the formation, Gray has elicited the support of featured artists like Nathan Cogan of Taking Back Sunday along with Andrew Leahey (Thirty Tigers), Jeff Hutchins of Insane Clown Posse, Justin Smith of Rodney Atkins, Eric Barfield (Evans Blue) and others to realize his ideas for their debut album Prelude, pegged by the single "Ammo" which peaked at No. 1 on Soundcloud Rock Charts and and “Tarantino” which also climbed to No.1 on US FM Radio (KXFM) and No. 78 on iTunes Top 100 Rock Songs Chart.

Subsequent albums like 2020 Record Store Day special 'Bees' and recent singles like "Small Talk" and "This is me Now (feat. Kid Brunswick) were equally as successful and paved the way for Gray to continue down his experimental creative path that boasts the meaning of songwriting and collaboration while blurring the line between genres.

John & Nienke

What happens when a song stays with you all the time and you can’t get it out of your head…

It happened to John with the beautifull song “What do I know” written by Steven McClintock. So we dicided that we take the song into our studio, made our own version of it… so we did.

The song developed as we were working on it and we decided to make two versions. One version featuring Mark Lennon (from the band Venice) and the other version as a love duet between John & Nienke.

Destiny Band Oz

Destiny Band Oz is a multi-award winning duo comprising husband and wife singer-songwriters, Thomas and Tessa Libreri.

Their versatile music and vocal styles range from soulful ballads to pumpy, country rock; ('Country, Rock and Soul!) They have already released 3 albums and 2 EPs and are excited to have just released their new album of original songs with new producer, Damian Cafarella of EOR Studios called 'Who I Might Be'.

As children, Thomas and Tessa grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Thomas in Reservoir and Tessa in Kilsyth. They were both musically inclined and tutored in music and singing. Thomas formed his first band at 12 playing bass guitar and had singing lessons from Normie Rowe.  He played in many bands over the years. Tessa performed in musicals, went to the Johnny Young Talent School and was classically trained by Suzanne Steele then with Audrey Duggan.

Thomas and Tessa met in a line-dancing country band based in Kinglake in 1996 which seemed like 'destiny' and they soon branched out on their own as a duo and later with various full band line-ups performing at clubs and functions. They married, had children and settled in Kinglake. They didn't perform much whilst their children were very young and then the horrific Black Saturday bushfires struck. Thomas and Tessa fought and saved their home and family and some of their neighbours but not all - and in the aftermath they decided to move their family away to Gippsland for a new start. (Thomas received a 'BM' - Bravery Medal from the Governor-General of Australia for his actions in saving a neighbour after the fire who sadly died a few weeks later in hospital) both Thomas and Tessa were heavily involved in the relief and rebuilding effort personally and through their building business at the time.

After moving to Gippsland, they devoted themselves to the activities of their primary school aged daughters, joined community groups and clubs in the area and soon found themselves performing full-on again. They decided to record an album of their original songs written over the years because of their life-changing experience and knowing how fragile life is, so it was more for posterity than anything but they were encouraged by local radio hosts who'd heard them perform their songs to release a song to radio, which they did in 2017.

Since then, they've had amazing #1 and Top 10 chart successes for their music and have amassed over a dozen major Australian and International awards.

Elisabeth Hope

Elisabeth Boersema (nickname Esther) or Elisabeth Hope is originally from Groningen and has lived in Drenthe for twenty years. Currently in Klazienaveen. "I do feel like a Drent yes," said the singer. During the week she is in a hair salon on Erica, but singing is really her great love.
The naturalness with which she is now singing in front of an audience was not there a few years ago.

"In the background I had been working on music for a long time, I've had singing lessons for years, but I never really dared to do anything with it," says Esther. "It was always my silent wish."
Through others, Esther came into contact with people who managed to convince her to make music for the public after all. It eventually came to a performance. Esther was sold. “I loved it so much,” she says. "My greatest wish, a song of my own, came so close."

She recorded her first song at Neo Music in Bovensmilde. There are now four singles from her to listen to. "You know, you age happily and I think you're never too old to learn something. So I thought, if I want something, I'll have to do it anyway. I shouldn't be such a shit and I just have to to do."

Tammy Marler

Growing up in Santa Cruz, California until 15, she learned to love artists like Bonnie Raitt, The Beach Boys, The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac – and they would shape the kind of country she would eventually write.

The move to Texas in the second half of her freshman year to San Antonio is where she fell in love with artists like Merle Haggard, George Strait and The Judds. Their influences would be the finishing touches that would shape Tammy into the writer she is today.

Her own songwriting got started when her oldest son started taking guitar lessons.  A spark was lit as she watched his talent grow. She knew all those bottled up lyrics put on a shelf as she raised 6 kids would finally come to life!

His guitar teacher, Scotty Raye, asked her to sing on his demos that would be going to Nashville. It was then the flame started to burn.

She would form a band shortly after and thought that would be enough. She could just sing locally and share her songs while covering her favorite artists!  Now with youngest son Tadd at her side on rhythm lead guitar, she would begin to write her masterpieces.

It was at a songwriting showcase in 2016 she would meet the first of her songwriting family, Colleen Francis. Colleen's love for Pop music and Rap and Tammy's love for Classic Rock and Country created a unique sound that caught the ears of many. Over those first few years, that songwriting family grew to 20-plus strong. Filled with artists like Billie Jo, Bailey Rae, Sophie Lynn, Mackenzie O'Brien, Andrew Chipman, Derek Skelton, Caitlin Caporale, Hunter Jordan, Daniel Sampley, Savvy Poole and the list goes on.

She has also been joined by so many other writers to compose great songs that are now being pitched in Nashville!   Many of her songs have been recorded and released by other artists as well!  Still waiting on that big one to hit, she is happy to just be a part of the journey in the lives of other writers.

So stay awhile and listen to the many songs written or co-written by Tammy Marler.

Randie O'Neil

Randie O'Neil's storytelling comes from a sincere place. Her work as an adolescent intervention specialist brings a real-world perspective to her lyrics. Drawing on her own life story of having to survive an abusive alcoholic environment as a child, she helps students navigate a complicated world. Through her songs, she conveys a message of understanding and courage to face problems that almost all of us experience at some point in our lives.

Full Moon Rising really explores finding your way through tough times and explores relationships during those tough times.  During the dark times of  Covid 19, Randie found a way to stay connected to her friends and community.  She found a way to explore and expand and even inspire.  Full Moon Rising deals with being cooped up and isolated but determined to stay connected to those who matter most. She felt like every day was full moon and Randie was restless to go out and be able to explore.  She used that energy to write.  “Queen (of the Barstool Two-Step)” examined the nightlife that had changed during covid.  Going to bars was not an option for people and what do you do with the loneliness.  People go out to be with people and not feel so alone.  Some people were brought together during this time and others found a distance between them. “Whispers takes a look at people who were together yet not able to quiet connect.”  “Treat me Right is an infectious  song with a lot of sass that just lays it out what a girl wants from a relationship.”  “Sidewalks” is a catchy singalong.  What Randie missed most was her ability to go out and meet people, to follow the sidewalks to where she wanted to go.  “Daddy’s Pride” is a powerful song that explores her relationship with her abusive alcoholic stepfather.  A parent should nurture and instill pride in a child, Randie was able to find it on her own.

Caroline Parke

" I wrote my first song in 2008, and have been jotting down lines in spurts and starts ever since. Most of the time I use real life experiences, using songwriting to revive all sorts of emotions. There are also songs where I completely make up the entire story line, allowing myself to just let go and dream for an afternoon! (Its a Great Escape!)

I am quite isolated on a farm in the middle of cattle country in western Canada. My daily interactions are with my husband and four young children, and my husband`s parents. Thank goodness for the internet, to allow for more visiting! I am always busy with cooking and cleaning and laundry and have a big garden each summer, preserving much of our food, and cooking (almost) every meal from scratch (if you need a recipe, just ask!).

It`s difficult to find any stretch of time to concentrate, but as my friend Tammy says, you can`t get diamonds without pressure. While I am sometimes overwhelmed with simple daily tasks, I find that my mind can often find a glimmer of a small crack, and squeezes out something refreshing, creative, and beautiful, through words and melody."

Northeast Music Festival

The countdown is on; North by Northeast Music Festival (NXNE) has announced its initial list of Showcasing Artists invited to perform at this year’s music festival June 14th - 19th in Toronto.

The annual cultural explosion featuring music and more is set to feature over 300+ of the world’s best artists of today and tomorrow — including Omega Mighty, Osé, Balto, Dallas, Broken Islands, Vicky R, Jeremy Voltz, and hundreds more!

“We’re back and taking over more than 20 of Toronto’s top live music venues,” NXNE Founder and President Michael Hollett reveals. “We want to make it very easy for people to come back to live music and experience stage-hopping like festivals used to be.”

The festival is committed to gender equity and BIPOC representation, boasting a diverse lineup that reflects the festival’s core theme, ‘Talent is Everywhere.’ NXNE also makes great music accessible and inclusive to all; no artists are asked to pay to apply, all performers are paid, and admission to Club Shows in 2022 is extremely low-cost.

Full festival five-day passes are just $20 — an inflation-defying $9.99 less than in 1995 when NXNE launched. “That’s actually cheaper than when it first started,” Hollett notes. “Given the pummeling the live music scene has taken over the last two years, we wanted to remove financial barriers to attending NXNE to best connect artists with audiences. You can see live music all week for the price of a movie ticket and popcorn.

“We can’t wait to present these great acts to the world,” Hollett continues. “It’s time to experience live music again – and listen to the future at NXNE.”

While further announcements of NXNE’s full lineup will follow, passes are currently available for sale at nxne.com.
