The brainchild of Norwegian singer-songwriter Stian Fjelldal, Birds Are Better brings a unique slant to folk music with a fusion of traditional folk, power-pop, synth-rock and indie-pop.

The Other Side Reviews describes the project as a meeting between Charlie Puth and Mumford and Sons while Of Monsters and Men comes to the minds of Nordic Music Central and Music To Blame.

Fjelldal himself is a huge fan of artists like Fleet Foxes and Loney Dear and you might be able to spot Birds Are Better somewhere in between.

The project was launched this fall and “Marigold” is his second single. More singles will come before the debut album release in 2023.

Anthony Krizan

Sudden Lights

Sudden Lights represented Latvia in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.

"Backwards in Time" is the latest single that was released beginning of May. The single continues Sudden Lights' sound search, combining a modern indie style with elements and references of various other musical styles like pop and rock. The lyrics include the incomprehensible nostalgic feeling that takes over as a happy moment draws to a close. The song is about a longing that never ends. One happy highlight of your life comes, passes and you already look forward to the next one.

The Latvian version of this song was included on the album "Miljards vasaru".

Stevie: “I was born in Salford UK and raised on dreams and fresh air!"

It all started when I was 5yrs old and I borrowed a bag of vinyl records. An old collection of mixed up 78s 33s and 45rpm which was fun changing the speeds! I was six years old when I started teaching myself to sing and play. Piano first then guitar and bass guitar and I was eight years old when I wrote my first song.

At about the same time I formed a duo with a school friend and we performed our first gig on my front door step! Shortly after I started experimenting with recording and tape looping, layering vocal harmonies and generally exploring the multi-track recording process. A big decision was to trade my bike for an electric guitar and an old record player which I used as a guitar amp until I blew all the electricity in the house!

From there my musical interest spiralled beautiful out of control and I discovered many other artists and styles in Pop, Rock & Roll, Jazz, Folk, Americana, Soul, Gospel, Country and more!

I’ve played bass for and recorded and toured with a large number of artist. Here are a few highlights:

WHO IS KAREN WOLFE

“Karen is no newcomer to the world of R&B and Soul Blues. However, “Karen Wolfe” recorded her first album with a Gospel Quartet group called “The Harmonettes” the CD was titled “Stop by Here”. The group later changed their name to “Direction” and went on to record their sophomore CD that was titled “God Don’t Make Mistakes”. After the group dissolved, “Karen’s” musical career took a change in direction. “Karen” joined the Soul & Blues arena by singing background behind the Queen of the Blues, the Legendary Denise LaSalle.

BACK IN THE DAY:

Back-to-back hits allowed Karen to perform and tour for four plus years all around the country but eventually like all great singers she had this burning desire to do something new. During those four years of traveling the global several looked alike appeared but when the dust settled only one Princess of Soul and Blues emerged. Karen knew she had to bring the fire to let them know that chick ain’t me and with a new year, new manager comes new music, new attitude, and now she had two new hot songs in soul that she just couldn’t wait to release but just couldn’t finding the right time to release them.

Even with all of the hits her fans were crying for that answer to “Man Enough so in 2017 Karen released the “That Chick Ain’t Me” which was followed in 2018 by “You Ain’t Woman Enough” and the fans were happy. Anthony Krizan

Krizan’s rock roots run deep. He was lead guitarist of the Spin Doctors, opening 15 dates for the Rolling Stones with audiences of 70,000, and for the Allman Brothers. He played guitar with Jimi Hendrix’s legendary bassist, Noel Redding. Anthony is known for rocking the big stages and getting an audience on their feet. He’s an original member of Amphibian, with Phish lyricist Tom Marshall.

In the Summer of 2022, Krizan released the single Strawberry Wine. The song is currently experiencing national radio play and critical acclaim. The single can be purchased here.

Anthony has also penned rock/soul staples such as Stand By My Woman with Lenny Kravitz, 5 songs on the Spin Doctors Greatest Hits, the theme of the Spin City TV series and The Howard Stern “Miss America” theme. Recently, Krizan co-wrote the title track to British rock singer John Waite’s new 2022 EP, Anything, and produced 3 tracks on the release. He also co-wrote the title track to John Waite’s Mercury release When You Were Mine.

Krizan is the 2013 recipient of the ASCAP FOUNDATION JAY GORNEY AWARD for the song he co-wrote with CHERYL DAVEIGA, “Home Don’t Feel Like Home”.

But Anthony’s true passion lies in his solo work. The Anthony Krizan Band’s performances and songs are electrifying, a swampy, rock/blues/soul, genre crossing solo-coaster ride. The title track to his last CD, Dust & Bone, was well-received and recorded by Gretchen Wilson, blues guitar legend Pat Travers and Tim Hicks (Universal Records).

The Static Dive

 

The Static Dive is the professional name of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer, Bob Smith. From his studio in upstate NY he works remotely with LA-based co-producer Kilo House to create genre-bending indie psychedelic rock, pop and Trip-hop. 

An obsessive creator, Bob has spent the last 25 years making music and writing words. In the 90s he toured the Northeastern college circuit with his influential experimental ska/jam/funk band Shu. In the studio, over the years he has written and recorded hundreds of songs as a solo artist and with his americana/alternative rock band The Distractions. 

Throughout his tenure in music, Bob has also worked extensively on the business side of the business. He made a big splash as a founding partner and the primary technical architect of the revolutionary HitPredictor.com song testing system. He has worked as a producer and host in both radio and television, and he has written for Billboard magazine, TV, radio, newspapers and now for his own popular music blog.

 Since debuting as The Static Dive in 2018, Bob has released nearly two dozen tracks ranging from tripped out downtempo space instrumentals to radio-ready indie-pop bops. He has collaborated with artists from around the world. In 2021 The Static Dive was signed to German record label FBP Music Group.

Carlos Solis

 

Born in Havana Cuba, Carlos Solis arrived in Miami with his family in 1961 at the age of 6 fleeing the Communist regime in his home country. He grew up in the Little Havana area of Miami, in a very rough neighborhood and went to five different schools. Things changed for him through music and the influence of several police officers. He started writing playing and recorded at several studios in Miami and also appeared on several TV Shows. In 1977 he married and decided to put down the guitar, go to work and try to start his own business. They wound up owning several successful businesses. In 2007 his wife Sandy was diagnosed with breast cancer. They sold their business and he stayed with her 24/7 as she was going through surgery, chemo and radiation. This inspired him to start writing again and the creation of the SolisBravo Band began a unique sound of Soft Rock, Jazz, Big Band, Swing, Bossa nova, Latin Jazz. He reunited with some old friends, most Grammy and Emmy winners. The main song on the first CD he wrote for her is called "You're Not Alone”. The second CD Sailing was released, and Pandora gave him his own station the Solisbravo band radio.

The new single USA and Back to You was written for the love and appreciation he has for this country.

Mikolas Josef

Mikolas Josef, born 4.10.1995, is an independent singer/songwriter/multiinstrumentalist/producer and music video director. Josef was born in Prague and raised in a village in central Bohemia.  Half Moravian, he first began making folk records moving on to hiphop, house and pop music. His current sound however still carries signs of folk music, thus creating a unique combination and style. 
 He started his carreer at the age of 15 recording with local producers and busking in the capital. He almost failed his third year in high school when awarded grade E for Music. He continued busking throughout Europe in cities such as Oslo, Hamburg or Zurich saving up for his productions. 

Furthermore, Josef was awarded gold medal with distinction from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts for acting, and had a one year carrier as a model.

Urban Walrus

 

Self-proclaimed as the «probably most boring band in the world», is based in Zurich and was formed in 2022 by Swiss/German Singer/Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Fabian Koerber.

Their debut single "Pie in the Sky" was followed by "Shades" and "August Rain". Making an impact straight away, with just three tracks Urban Walrus has struck a chord with fans and clocked over half a million streams on Spotify alone.

Sudden Lights is one of the fastest growing, most sought after and streamed artists in Latvia. They play a combination of pop rock with slight indie touches. Band’s music is characterized by catchy melodies perfect for dancing with a melancholic note or two along the way, and it all permeates with youthful energy.

Sudden Lights is official Latvia's representative in Eurovision Song Contest 2023. The band has released three albums – “Priekšpilsētas” (2017), "Vislabāk Ir Tur, Kur Manis Nav" (2019) and “Miljards vasaru” (2022). Their debut album received Best Debut nomination with the Latvian Music Recordings Awards 2018. 2022 was the most successful year so far. Sudden Lights was one of the most sought after artists in Latvia with many live shows, new album and tour in Latvia. The band has only performed in Latvia so far. Their album “Miljards vasaru” received 5 nominations for Latvian Music Awards, including Best Pop Album, Best Album Design and Best Concert Video.

The band members met in music school, where soloist Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis was learning clarinet, guitarist Kārlis Matīss Zitmanis was learning violin, bass player Kārlis Vārtiņš was playing oboe and drummer Mārtiņš Matīss Zemītis was studying percussions. At first, a friendship was born between them in the music school orchestra and a dream about their own band came a bit later. They started to rehearse together in music school after lessons around 2012 and released their first single “Tik savādi” in 2015.
